Meet Silvia Rolando - Revenue Accounting Director

Created only seven years ago, our solution Kiu Admin - Revenue Accounting - is currently being used by 30 fast-growing worldwide airlines, but who is the individual behind this product?

Meet Silvia Rolando, Kiu Admin - Revenue Accounting Director. Accountant, University of Buenos Aires alumni, with more than twenty years of experience in the airline industry, Silvia shares with us her passion for the industry, her secret for the teamwork behind the development of this product, and more.


E: How did you start in the industry?

S: In the company I used to work for, there was a project for reengineering the processes in which we started working with a consultancy whose director was Daniel Maggi (current Kiu Commercial Director). Through him, another similar project started for a company called “Ceicom”. I thought it was an important and interesting challenge in my professional career. This is my beginning in the world of aviation; and once you start, you fall in love with the industry and become really passionate, so it’s impossible for you to ever leave. Afterward, I decided to get a professional training about the air industry; first, in the development of accounting systems since, due to my professional profile, was a local requirement for Pluna Lineas Aereas; and, later, in everything related to expenses control where I also participated in the system implementation for Dinar Líneas Aéreas.

E: Really? In Ceicom?

S: Exactly. In the beginning, I worked with Lapa, Southern Wings and Aerolineas Argentinas, among others. I also traveled a lot to work in projects for Varig, Brazil flag carrier. We also participated in an exciting joint project with TAM where, at that time, we would work directly with programmers and constantly travel to Paraguay and Brazil. I was part of the company’s growth so I got promoted to Project and Implementations Manager and was the leader of a team both in Argentina and Brazil as TAM Brasil was, at that moment, our client so we had a regional branch set up there. This helped me to develop my skills in handling remote teams and outsourcing.


E: ...so from there, you moved to Kiu?

S: Yes. I had retired from the industry because of the birth of my second daughter and I was called for this idea about developing a Revenue Accounting System. By then, Kiu had only KIU PSS so there was an important gap in the market that was essential for KIU to encompass new profiles of the industry.

When I met KIU’s owners, I found the project extremely interesting which, added to the adrenaline of undertaking a new challenge, made easy my decision of joining KIU.

E: And what do you enjoy the most about working in Kiu System Solutions?

S: Well, one of the things I really appreciate and value of the company is the freedom I am given to perform in my role by having complete autonomy when first defining the product and now with the objectives. The fact that I feel encouraged, appreciated and supported by our CEO (Alberto Desimone) facilitates product, company and even my own professional development and growth. Kiu is a company where the necessary tools are provided for you to work in the best possible way: IATA Courses, internal training, etc.

E: Which three words would you choose if you had to describe your role as a Revenue Accounting Director?

S: If I had to choose three words, they would be: Knowledge, Leadership, and Responsibility. It is of paramount importance to reach a consensus to achieve everything the team commits to regarding goals and planning. In my job, I prioritize individuals who are able to work as a team. I work with a team of professionals who are caring and responsible which are two indispensable features for success.

E: Now going into the product per se; which are the greatest benefits of the product you are directing?

S: One of the main benefits is process automatization which allows companies to control and audit all transactions. Nowadays you find companies with several time-consuming manual processes that become perfect scenarios for errors and fraud.

Another great advantage is operational tracking. Kiu Admin keeps real-time tracking of the incomes in each level providing Airline Management with efficient and effective decision-making and the determination of the company’s real income and liabilities namely the final goal of the Revenue Accounting system.

E: What makes your product different from the rest of the Revenue Accounting Systems?

S: One of the main advantages is flexibility in the parameterization; we adapt easily and quickly to both clients and industry requirements. Another difference is training and support. We accompany and provide support during the entire implementation process and, at the same time, we advise our clients about the best practices in different fields such as commercial area, Interline, accounting, etc.

E: Are there any upcoming upgrades or developments for the product?

S: We are currently working in Tax and Refund Audit processes and we continue working on the growth of our Business Intelligence system.
